Raabta partners with Pakistan’s Zara & Zara Design Studio

Aiming to build female and disability friendly bathrooms at schools across Pakistan under their CLEAN (Comprehensive Lavatory Enabling All Needs) Initiative

Raabta is pleased to announce its collaboration with Zara & Zara Design Studio, an acclaimed Pakistani Architectural firm. This partnership for CLEAN is set to tackle a pressing need: the development of accessible and girl-friendly bathrooms in underserved communities.

In many regions, challenges related to menstruation and entrenched taboos can prevent girls from attending school and actively participating in their communities. Additionally, the lack of disability-friendly facilities further marginalizes differently-abled individuals. This collaboration aims to design and aid in the construction of disaster resilient bathrooms that address these needs and restore facilities damaged by unforeseen natural disasters.

"Our mission at Raabta has always been about forging meaningful connections and championing inclusivity. Collaborating with Zara & Zara Design Studio allows us to bring architectural brilliance and a deep understanding of space to communities that need it most. Raabta believes fostering inclusivity is a multifaceted endeavor, which requires a holistic approach that takes into account the environment where learning and growth occur. By ensuring every child and individual, regardless of gender or ability, has safe and dignified access to basic facilities, we are not just building bathrooms; we are laying the foundation for a more inclusive, empathetic, and empowered society." Mishaal Najam, Raabta.

Zara & Zara Design Studio, a female-led venture, is renowned for its commitment to curating contextually relevant, customized designs tailored to users' specific needs. The studio operates on the belief that the spaces we inhabit are extensions of our existence, and it's crucial to design them with a deep understanding and a nurturing perspective.

The initiative will commence on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan pending final plans and funds, with the agenda to expand its reach in the subsequent phases, both locally and internationally. Beyond the physical construction, the partnership also aims to drive awareness campaigns to challenge existing taboos and enlighten communities on the importance of inclusivity, and feminine health.
